World
War II Army Air Corps veteran Roy Griffin McAdam, 82, of Santa Rita, died
of complications from emphysema Friday at Northern Rockies Medical Center in Cut
Bank.
Services are 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Elks Club in Cut Bank. Burial will precede
the service at 1 p.m. in Crown Hill Cemetery with military honors. Whitted
Funeral Chapel of Cut Bank is handling arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Martha; a daughter, Ellen (Terry) Alborn
of Bozeman; sons John Haglund of Sheridan, Wyo., and Bill Haglund of Provo,
Utah; grandchildren Kimberley (Jason Smith) Klepzig of St. Paul, Minn., Grant
Klepzig of Redmond, Wash., Phil (Davey) Haglund of Belgrade, Margie (David)
Pagano of Roy, Utah, and Emily (Mark) Telander of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and
six great-grandchildren; his siblings, Mary Norton of Redding, Calif., Scotty
(Helen) McAdam of Casper, Wyo., Anna Blair of Riverton, Wyo., Chuck (Arlene)
McAdam of Grand Junction, Colo., Don (Helen) McAdam of Casper, Wyo., Mona (Paul)
Arnott of Great Falls, Ted (Mary Lou) McAdam of Grand Lake, Colo., and Max
McAdam of Bloomfield, N.M. Roy impacted the lives of many of his nieces and
nephews and will be missed by all.
Roy was born April 13, 1924, in Cat Creek, Mont., and attended school in Cut
Bank, graduating in 1943. He served in World War II in the Army Air Corps with
the 39th Bomb Squadron stationed on Tinian Island in the Pacific where he
witnessed the takeoff of the Enola Gay on its war-ending mission. He worked in
the oil fields in the Cut Bank area most of his life. He worked for Getter
Trucking for 26 years, retiring in 1984.
Roy was very active with VFW, serving as Past Quartermaster, the Legion Club and
the local Elks. He was Elk of the Year for 1993-94. He was dedicated to
furthering the recognition of veterans and honoring those who have served their
country.
Roy was a wonderful husband, dad, grandpa and brother and family and friends
will miss hearing his opinion on a variety of topics, particularly the latest on
the political forefront.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Maude McAdam; siblings
Robert McAdam, Lloyd McAdam, Blanche Wadman and Glenette Duncan.
Donations may be made in his honor to the Tri-County Shrine Club or Montana Hope
Project.
