Frank
Mountain Chief, whose Indian name was “Eagle Boy”, age 76, a
US Air Force Veteran and ranch hand, passed away Wednesday at a
Browning hospital due to natural causes. His wake will start
after 10 a.m., Saturday at
the Old Eagle Shields Center where a rosary will be said Monday
at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Little
Flower Parish in Browning. Burial with military honors will
follow in the Willow Creek Cemetery. Whitted Funeral Chapel in
charge of arrangements.
He was survived by his brother,
Mike Mountain Chief and sisters, Rose (Peter)
VanDenBerg
and Anna (Bill) Bitz all of
Browning. He was preceded in death by his parents, and
siblings, Malcolm, Walter Jr., Ella, Louise and Mary.
He was born
Dec. 16, 1928 near Twin Lakes, MT to Walter
& Emma (Boy Chief) Mountain Chief and grew up in the Browning
and Heart Butte areas. He served as an aircraft mechanic with
the US Air Force from 1946-1948. After his discharge from the
service, he worked as a ranch hand and laborer in the Browning
area. In his younger years, he participated in
bronc riding and boxing.
