Charlie Lincoln, age 84, a well known rancher from Shelby , died Sunday morning, March 11, 2007 at the Marias Care Center . Visitation is Thursday from 1:00 until 8:00 pm at the Whitted Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am Friday (March 16^th) at St. William Catholic Church with burial to follow in the Mountain View Cemetery .  Memorials are suggested to the Shelby Senior Citizens.

He is survived by three sisters and one brother, Esther Lincoln Lonergan of Omaha Nebr., Raymond Lincoln of Great Falls , Adelle Lincoln Alessandroni of Greenwich Conn. and Lottie Lincoln Bourdeau of Great Falls as well as numerous nieces and nephews.   

He was born to Fred and Anna (Kubis) Lincoln on March, 31 1922 on a homestead in Black Coulee, 13 miles south of Inverness , Montana .  He went to a country school south of Inverness and finished high school in Havre in 1940.

After high school Charlie lived on the family farm and ranch south of Inverness .  In 1946 both he and his mother, Anna Lincoln, bought a ranch on the Marias River southwest of Shelby .  Charlie lived and ranched on the river for over 50 years.  He experienced the “Flood of 1964” when the water was up to the ceiling in his home and it took most of his buildings.  During the past several years he lived in Shelby .   

Charlie loved nature and animals, especially horses.  He was a true conservationist at heart. What he enjoyed most was taking pack trips into the Bob Marshall Wilderness on horseback.

Charlie will be missed by all who knew him. 

It was always a great adventure to “Ride the River with Charlie.”

As Charlie would say:  “Time marches on…………….”

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Albert Lincoln in 2004.
