John
D. Larson, age 73, a retired investment and
life/health insurance representative, died Tuesday,
November 1, 2005 at his home in Conrad. His
memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday,
November 4th at the Pondera Valley
Lutheran Church in Conrad. Whitted Funeral Chapel
of Shelby is in charge

Survivors include his
wife Frances of Conrad; daughters, Deborah Lee (Rod)
Stine of Loveland, CO and Patricia Jo (Greg)
Robinson of Conrad; sons, David John (JoAnne)
Larson of Hemiston, OR
and Paul Scott (Rachel) Larson of Nampa, ID; a
brother, Roger D. (Toni) Larson and 11
grandchildren. Grandchildren; Tricia
Riewer of Missoula, Ryan
Riewer and Tyler
Robinson both of Conrad, Hayden Larson of Hermiston,
OR, Sam Vander Wall, Joshua & Aaron Larson Nampa,
ID, MacKenzie & Alyssa
Stine of Greeley, CO, Christopher & Brennan Stine of
Loveland, CO.
He was born July 20,
1932 in Granite Falls, MN and graduated from Conrad
High School in 1950.
He married Frances
Hares June 11, 1954 in Bridger, MT, following his
graduation from the Univ. of Montana where he
majored in business and education, and was a member
of the Grizzly Band. He taught high school for two
years where he won an Allstate journalism award for
his class; then spent one year teaching in the Great
Falls Commercial College.
He and his family
moved to Conrad where he was employed by
K’s Auto Parts and Farm
Credit Services. They moved to Valier where he was
president of Valier Bank of Montana, chaired the
Valier Business Board, and served in the town
council. They moved back to Conrad where he became
president of Pondera Bank of Montana. While there,
he was two term president of the Conrad Chamber of
Commerce, a director of the Economic Development
Corp., earned the state Spoke Award while with the
Conrad Jaycees and belonged to the Montana Banker’s
Assoc.
They later moved to
Libby where he was an officer with First National
Bank; then moved to Whitefish where he was in
recreational real estate. They returned to Conrad
when he joined Lutheran Brotherhood in life, health
and securities sales. He retired in 2000.
He was a member of
Pondera Valley Lutheran Church in Conrad and served
over the years as trustee, deacon, treasurer and
member of various musical groups. He was also
Executive Council President and resolutions
committee member of the Montana Synod.
