John Eyth Krapf, age 82, a retired machinist and U.S. Navy veteran from Cut Bank, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at Glacier County Care Center in Cut Bank due to natural causes.  Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., June 4, 2005 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cut Bank.  Private burial of ashes will be held prior to the service.  Whitted Funeral Chapel of Cut Bank is in charge of arrangements.  Condolences can be sent to the family at www.whittedfuneralchapel.com

He is survived by his wife Mary Krapf of Cut Bank; daughter, Linda (Dana) Williams of Salt Lake City, UT; son, Mark (Cathy) Krapf of Cut Bank; a sister, Dorothy Johnson of Burbank, CA; grandsons, Karl Krapf of Bozeman, Kyle Krapf of Casper, WY, Kody Krapf of Cut Bank and Jesse Williams and Perry Williams both of Salt Lake City.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a cousin Gretchen Frantzich.

He was born August 4, 1922 to Karl B. and Julia (Eyth) Krapf in Enterprise, Kansas.  When John was a child, the family moved to Cut Bank where he grew up and graduated from high school.  He attended Montana State College in Bozeman for one year and entered the U.S. Navy where he served as a flight instructor from 1942-1946.  He then attended the University of Colorado in Boulder where he graduated with a degree in education. 

While in college, he met Mary Elizabeth Knodle and they were married June 18, 1950 in Marshalltown, Iowa.  They moved to Cut Bank where John worked at and later took over the family oilfield machine shop.  After retiring in 1984, they traveled around the country extensively and spent their winters in Tucson, AZ. 

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, a past member of the hospital board and the Jaycees, was a 50 year member of the Cut Bank Elk’s Lodge #1632, a 50 year 32 degree member of Cut Bank Masonic Lodge #82 and Tri-County Shrine Club and Al Bedoo Temple, a 50 year member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity of the U. of Colorado, a member of the Good Sam Club, the Glacier Penguins and a member of the Montana Pilot’s Association. 

He enjoyed working with stained glass, snowmobiling, boating, traveling in his motor home, golfing, motorcycling, talking on his C.B. radio’s, lapidary and flying.

Donations can be made to the Shriner's Cripple Children Hospital or any charity of their choice.
