Barbara
Lola (Gallagher) Kleiv, 87, a long time resident of Shelby and
formerly of the Flathead Valley and Great Falls MT, passed on
after an extended illness due to Alzheimer’s in the Manor at
Blue Water Bay, Niceville Florida, on June 2, 2006. Funeral
services will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2006 at St. Luke’s
Lutheran Church in Shelby, followed by burial in Mountain View
Cemetery. Whitted Funeral Chapel of Shelby is in charge of

Surviving family include her three
children, Col (Ret) Tom Kleiv and wife Karen of Niceville FL,
Ray Kleiv and wife Karen of Bigfork MT, and
Jurine (Dee Kleiv / Fowler) Urdahl
and husband Randy of Broomfield CO. Grand children include
Craig Kleiv and wife Sawvalak,
Portland OR, Maj (Sel)
Dain Kleiv, RAF
Mildenhall UK, Chris Kleiv Bigfork MT, Jody Fowler
Seattle WA, Mark Fowler and wife Jeri, Billings MT,

Child Mali Kleiv, Portland OR. Barbara was preceded in death by
brothers Jack, Don, Danny, and sister
Jean.
Barbara, known to many as Bobbie,
was born in Armington, MT on Nov 2,
1918. The youngest of five children, her mother Lena died when
she was 2 years old. She was raised by her father Charles, who
worked in the zinc plant for Anaconda Copper in Great Falls
where Barbara attended school for 10 years and graduated from
high school in 1937. She continued her education at the College
of Great Falls where she earned a three year teaching
certificate and taught at both
Neihart, MT and White Salmon,
WA elementary schools. She married Lt T.O. Kleiv from
Whitefish, MT in March of 1944 at Pyote
Field TX. She and T.O. moved to Shelby in 1946 and continued
her career as a multi grade elementary teacher in Dunkirk,
Ethridge and Shelby until 1973.
They remained together for 49 years until
T.O.’s death in 1993. In addition to her teaching
activities, she loved children and was St. Luke’s Junior Choir
Director and took on responsibilities as Superintendent of the
Sunday School for several years. In her more senior years, she
worked as a clerk in Wells Drug, participated in Shelby Toast
Mistress and the Garden Club. She was a talented cook, loved
working in her garden, sewing and traveling to the family Echo
Lake cabin in the Flathead.
