Charles
Michael Kimmet, 81, a mechanic
and jack of all trades from Sunburst, passed away Thursday,
February 16th, at a Cut Bank Hospital due to natural
causes. Rosary will be 7:00 p.m. Monday at St. Thomas
aquinas Catholic
Church in Sunburst. Funeral Mass is set for 11:00 a.m. Tuesday
at St. William Catholic Church in Shelby. Burial will be 10:00
a.m. Wednesday at Mountain View Cemetery. Whitted Funeral Chapel
in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the

Survivors include his daughter,
Theresa (Bill) Dickey of Peoria, AZ; sons, Michael (Connie) and
Lyle (Roxanna) both of Shelby, Ron (Peggy) of Hardin, Gary
(Teresa) of Columbia Falls, Greg (Sandy) of Woodbury, MN, Dale
(Lisa) of Terry, Nick (Penny) of Idaho Falls, ID, Dan (Sue) and
Lynn both of Sunburst; sister, Josephine
O’Loughlin of Great Falls; brothers, George & Leo of
Billings and Andy of Great Falls; 19 grandchildren and 14
great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife,
Katherine, 5 brothers & 2 sisters.
Charlie was born July 10, 1924 at
Conception, Missouri to Adam & Josephine (Rubeck)
Kimmet. Moved to
Montana with his family in 1937. He was a graduate of St
Mary’s in 1943 and then served in the Navy from 1944 -1946.
Charles served on the USS Wateree as
a fireman and survived the sinking of the ship on the Bay of
Okinawa. He was then commissioned to the USS Yellowstone until
the end of his military career. Charles and Katherine Hey were
married on January 10, 1946 in Great Falls. After returning
home, Charles began worked for his Uncle Joseph, farmed, and
worked on the oil pipe line. Charles also worked for the County
Road Department, the Sunburst Schools, and the State Highway
Department retiring in 1986.
Charles was well known for being
community service-minded having served on the Sunburst city
council, city judge, church organizations, Boy Scout leader,
catholic youth leader and ambulance driver. He was a member of
the Knights of Columbus and the VFW. Charles had an
extraordinary ability for fixing cars and appliances and for
carpentry. He enjoyed following his children’s and
grandchildren’s activities. Charles loved to tease, travel and
