Clara Dorothy (Berget)
Holland, 83, a farm homemaker who was active in the Sunburst
community, died of complications from emphysema Tuesday at a
Great Falls hospital.
Her funeral is 11 a.m. Monday at Sunburst United Methodist
Church, with burial in Sunburst Cemetery. A fellowship luncheon
will be held at the church after the burial. Whitted Funeral
Chapel of Shelby is in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy is survived by her son, David Holland of Sunburst; her
daughter, Roxanne (Carl) Christofferson of Great Falls;
stepdaughters Dolores Skinner of Reno, Nev., and Lora (Ron)
Lyall of Sarasota, Fla.; brothers Chuck (Elsie) Berget of
Milwaukee, Wis., LeMoyne (Shirley), Jerome (Leona) and Curt
Berget, all of New Richmond, Wis.; a sister, Mildred Olson of
New Richmond; grandchildren Valerie (Don) McAlpine of Sunburst,
Bradley (Rachael) Holland of Havre, Stephenie (Dale Raulston)
Holland and Brenton Holland of Missoula, Cpl. Jason (Erin)
Christofferson, USMC of Newburgh, N.Y., and Shawn Christofferson,
currently a student at the University of Montana, Missoula; and
six great-grandchildren.
Born Feb. 13, 1922, in Polk County, Wis., to Edwin and Helga
(Hanson) Berget, Dorothy was raised and educated in New
Richmond. She traveled to Montana, where she sang on live radio
with "Montana Pete" in Wolf Point. While in Montana, she met her
future husband, O. Vaughan Holland, a grain farmer from
Sunburst. They were married in St. Paul, Minn., on Dec. 29,
1948.
She was a farm wife and homemaker who was active in her
community as a Cub Scout leader, room mother, member of the PTA,
"What Not Club," United Methodist Church Women, American Legion
Auxiliary and VFW Auxiliary. After her husband's death, she
managed the family farm.
She enjoyed sewing, reading, playing cards with her
grandchildren, cooking, and was known for her pies and divinity.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her
parents, brothers Dick, Minnerd, Harold and Harvey Berget; and a
sister, Elaine Johnson.
