James S. Hofland, 89, a long time oilfield worker from Kevin, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at Peace Hospice of Great Falls.

At his request no services are planned and cremation has taken place under the direction of the Whitted Funeral Chapel. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.whittedfuneralchapel.com

He is survived by daughters, Louise Archibald and Jean Gorman both of Washington; sons, David Hofland and James D. Hofland both of Kevin, Dale Hofland and Larry Hofland both of Washington and Clarence Hofland of Great Falls along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Anna Hofland, and brothers, Donald, Oran and Wesley.

He was born Dec. 18, 1915 at Williams, Montana to Martin & Oranchie Hofland where he grew up and graduated from Valier High School. He later served with the CCC’s during WW2.  He farmed west of Brady along with cutting and hauling Christmas trees.  He moved to North Toole County in 1960 and over the years he worked on cable tool and rotary drilling rigs and pumping oil wells until his retirement in 1985.

James enjoyed spending time taking pictures, baking cookies and donuts, playing cards and being active at the Kevin Senior Center.
