David M Hofer, 85, the retired minister for the
Hillside Hutterite Colony near Sweet Grass, passed away Tuesday at his residence
due to complication form diabetes.
His funeral will be noon Thursday at the Hillside Colony with burial in the
Colony Cemetery. Whitted Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his daughters, Rebecca Hofer and Mary Hofer both of the
Hillside Colony at Sweet Grass, Elizabeth Wurz of the Glacier Colony at Cut
Bank, Justina Waldner, Susie Waldner and Lydia Waldner all of the East End
Colony at Havre, Katie Waldner of the Camrose Colony at Ledger, Anna Entz of
MacMillan Colony in Alberta Sarah Waldner of the Waldner Colony at Sask. Sons,
David and Jake Hofer of the Hillside Colony at Sweet Grass. Also 5 brothers and
3 sisters along with 44 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He is preceded
in death by his beloved wife Rebecca and set of twins Mike & Rachel.
He was born April 30, 1919 at Milltown, SD to Michael & Rebecca (Gross) Hofer.
He then moved to Warner, Alberta in 1929 and later to Sweet Grass in 1951. He
married Rebecca Wurz at the Sunny Site Colony on Dec. 9, 1942
He had been the chicken man for numerous years, later the German school teacher
for 3 years and then the Minister for 39 years.
