Charles Edward Goltz, 84, a retired master electrician and WWII veteran from Shelby , passed away Monday, March 19th, at the Marias Medical Center due to natural causes. Memorial services are 2:00 pm Friday, March 23rd, at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church . Interment of ashes with military honors will follow in the Veterans’ Section of Mountain View Cemetery. Survivors include his daughters, Donna (Joe) Gladeau and Susan (Jim) Lamb both of Shelby ; son, Dennis (Tyanne) Goltz of Marina, CA; eight grandchildren & eight great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife in 1994; two sons, Rob in 1999 and Chuck in 2001.

 

Chuck was born December 29, 1922 at Austin , MN to Leonard and Doris (Miller) Goltz. He attended school in Freeport and Decorah , Iowa . Chuck and Ethel Nesheim were married May 12, 1942 at Decorah , Iowa and were married for 52 years before she passed away in 1994. He served with the US Army from 1943 to 1945 including the Battle of the Bulge.

After the service he worked for the Coast to Coast store in Decorah. In 1954 they moved to Shelby where he was employed by Blumfield Electric before opening his own business, Goltz Electric.

Chuck was a member of Shelby American Legion Post #43 and VFW Helof-Holm Post #1977 in Decorah, Iowa .

Chuck enjoyed drawing and did most of his daughter Susan’s map work when she was in school. He could fix anything - so well in fact, that he was nick named the “Wizard”.
