
Margaret
(Knoble) Doughty, age 90, a longtime resident of Oilmont, passed
away Monday February 20, 2006 at the Marias Medical Center in
Shelby. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Friday at the
Community United Methodist Church in Shelby with burial to follow in
Mountain View Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m., Thursday, at
the Whitted Funeral Chapel in Shelby. Condolences can be sent to the

Survivors include sons, Bob (Donna) Doughty of Great Falls, Bill
(Ida) Doughty of Shelby; daughters, Marleen (Jim) Blair of Shelby,
Peggy (Don) Hartwell of Cut Bank; special friend, Carroll Schlegel
of Sunburst; nine grandchildren, David (Pam) Doughty of Great Falls,
Billiette (Tim) Coolidge of Kevin, Jon (Lori) Blair of Fargo, ND,
Don (Barbara) Doughty of Great Falls, Kent (Kami) Doughty of
Bedford, NH, Jeff (Debbie) Doughty of Hammond, OR, Shawn Doughty of
Boston, MA, Kori (Rod Smith) Hartwell of Billings and Kelly (fiancé
Jody Stanford) Hartwell of Kevin; eleven great-grandchildren and one
great-great-grandchild, as well as several step-grandchildren and
numerous nieces and nephews.
Margaret was born on May 1, 1915 in Sweet Grass, MT to Raymond
and Gladys (Waddell) Knoble. She attended school in Sweet Grass,
Morgan Creek Country School near Glendive, the Burnham School near
Havre and Oilmont High School. Margaret came to Oilmont in 1931 at
age 17 to go to high school. During high school years, Margaret
worked as a waitress in cafes in Oilmont, Kevin and Sunburst to pay
for her schooling. She met Earl Doughty in Oilmont and they married
Dec. 24, 1935 in Shelby. Margaret and Earl continued living in
Oilmont, where they raised their five children.
Margaret enjoyed bowling, dancing, reading, crocheting, playing
the piano and accordion as well as flower gardening. She also
enjoyed sending letters as well as receiving them. Her favorite
times were spent with her family at family gatherings, especially
Christmas at the family home and summers at the family cabin at
Pinnacle.
She was a member of the Kevin Senior Center and the Methodist
Church.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her sister,
Mildred Kleppen; her brother, William Knoble, her husband, Earl; her
son, Jon; and three grandsons, Eric and Steve Blair and Shane
Doughty.
Memorials are suggested to the Tree of Life or a charity of the
donor’s choice.
