Richard G. (Don) Cullen, age 77, a retired Tel-Prompter Supervisor from Shelby , passed away Friday at the Marias Medical Center due to natural causes. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday (Nov, 16th) at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church , followed by burial with military honors in the Veteran Section of Mountain View Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Shelby Elk’s Lodge. Whitted Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years Helene Shirley (Dupart) Cullen of Shelby, daughter, Ilene (Jerry) Olson of  Lake Park, MN their two sons, Michael (Shana) of Lake Park, MN and David  of Detroit Lakes, MN; son, Michael (Sherry) Cullen of Shelby and their daughter, Nicole, and a son by a previous marriage, Rick Lee (Diane) Cullen of Silver Springs, NV, and their daughter Nicole;  brother, James (Marie) Cullen of Redford, Michigan; And numerous great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Patricia Hamberg.

Don was born Jan. 8, 1919 at Highland Park , Michigan to Michael & Verna Cullen. He joined the Army in 1946 serving as a military policeman stationed at Los Alamos , NM guarding atomic bombs. After his discharge he attended Chicago Technical College where he studied TV repair.

He first worked at Chrysler Motors in Detroit before moving to Seattle where he worked for Packard Bell. In 1954 he moved to Shelby and worked for Hi-Line Antenna which was later bought out by Tel-Prompter. He retired in 1986 due to ill health after 31 years as the Managing Supervisor for Shelby & Cut Bank.

Don was very civic minded coaching Little League Baseball, assisting with the Boy Scouts, serving as a 22 year member of the Shelby Vol. Fire Dept. retiring as Asst. Chief.  He was also a member of the Shelby Masonic Lodge #143 and Past Worshipful Master of Galata Masonic Lodge #106, Scottish Rite, Algeria Shrine Temple, Tyren Chapter of Cut Bank #34, Royal Arch, Order or the Eastern Star of Shelby, Shelby Elk’s and the American Legion.     

He was an avid hunter and fisherman and leaves behind many wonderful memories for his family and friends.
