Survivors include Florence, his wife of 61 years; three children,Carol (Dave) Romsa of Missoula, Larry (Bette) of Cut Bank, and Randy of Kevin; 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; siblings; Lillian DeMeester of Raymond, Alberta, Betty Rathwell of Cranbrook, BC, Dean (Marge) of Calgary, AB, Shirley(Charles) Charleton of Millicent, AL, and numerous nieces and nephews. Clifford was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Fred (Marie). Clifford was born April 21, 1921, the eldest child of Alva and Freda (Bach) Brown on the family farm east of Coutts, Alberta. He attended the OK Country School near Raymond, Alberta. As a dual citizen, Cliff was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in the South Pacific Theatre during World War II. He earned a Purple Heart and several other meritorious awards during the campaign. Clifford and Florence Piepgrass were married in November 1948 and moved to Sweetgrass to raise their family. Cliff worked as a farmer, a store clerk, mechanic, and was employed by the Port of Entry for over 20 years until his retirement in 1988. They moved to Cut Bank in 1991. Clifford was a member of the LDS Church in Coutts, the VFW, and the American Legion where he had served as a Post Commander and District Commander. He enjoyed many outdoor activities, tinkering in the shop, and teasing the younger member of the family. |
