Edna Augusta Lydia Borninkhof, 92, of Shelby, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2006 at the Marias Care Center in Shelby due to natural causes.  Her funeral will be 2 p.m., Thursday, September 21st at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Shelby with burial to follow in Valley View Cemetery.  Visitation will be 1-8 p.m., Wednesday at the Whitted Funeral Chapel.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.whittedfuneralchapel.com.

Survivors include her children, Beverly Gagner and husband Darold of Kalispell, Shirley Lerum and husband David of McMinnville, OR, Barney “Stanley” Borninkhof and wife Nancy of Bynum, Wesley Borninkhof and wife Neyta of Casa Grande, AZ, and Angeley Borninkhof and her partner Robyn Ferguson of Spokane, WA.  She is also survived by her 22 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren as well as many special friends including her devoted friend Corrine Anderson.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred and sons, Harley and Denley.

Edna was born May 7, 1914 to Gustave and Anna (Wendt) Zerbst in Baker, MT where she was raised and educated.  She married Fred “Barney” Borninkhof on June 27, 1935 in Plevna, MT.  Shortly afterward, they moved to Shelby where Fred worked as a farm and ranch hand in the area and Edna was a devoted homemaker, wife and mother.  Later in life, she worked as a cook in many places in Shelby as well as cleaned houses.  Fred passed away in 1990.

Edna was a former 4-H leader and a member of the VFW Auxiliary.  She was devoted to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for many years, helped organize vacation bible school, and was a member of W.E.L.C.A.  For many years, she was instrumental in helping with the Lutheran services at the care center. 

Edna was known as an excellent seamstress and cook.  She loved playing games with her children and grandchildren including having many of her famous water fights with anyone who dared.  She always felt a duty to help the elderly and children; her door was always open to anyone in need.
