Joseph L. Boggs, age 72, a rancher and construction contractor from Heart Butte, passed away Tuesday, August 2, at the Blackfeet Nursing Home. His wake will begin after 5:00 p.m. today at the Heart Butte Community Center. A rosary will be said Friday at 7:00 p.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church where the funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Whitted Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. 

He is survived by his wife of 50 years Mary Janice (Hall) Boggs of Heart Butte; sons, Wally (Kat) Boggs of Browning, Ray Boggs of Heart Butte and Joe Boggs of Belgrade; grandchildren, Wally, John, Jeri, Joey, Katie, Justin, Taylor, Morgan, Jacob, Cody, Tiana and Jori; great-grandchildren, Trenae, Tranell, Ashton, Braydon & Jeslyn; brother, Dan Boggs of Browning; sisters, Fern Salway of Browning, Selma Holmes of Conrad and Ruth Labuff of Butte; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and four brothers.  

He was born March 15, 1933 at Browning to Orel & Frances (Camp) Boggs. He grew up and was educated in various parts of the state and attended the Blackfeet Community College.  Joe served with the US Army during the Korean Conflict.

He married Mary Janice Hall on May 12, 1956 at Conrad.  Along with ranching he was also a construction contractor.  Joseph was an accomplished musician and played various instruments quite well. He was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church and the Northern Rockies Music Assoc. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and playing music.
