Shirley
Ann (Jones) Atwood, age 74, a longtime Cut Bank waitress and
bartender, died on her mother’s birthday, Thursday, April 21,
2005 at the Marias Care Center in
Shelby due to natural causes. Her memorial service will be 2
p.m., Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Cut Bank.
Whitted Funeral Chapel of Cut Bank is in charge of

Survivors include her children,
Vicki (Bill) Sparks of Silver Star, MT, Rhonda (Terry) Lewis of
Great Falls, Brenda (Louis) Moench,
Erwin Atwood, Lori (Jerome) Atwood and
Cathi Schnell all of Cut Bank; sisters, Harriet Bold,
Barbara McCabe and Dorothy Wyse as well as 13 grandchildren and
5 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Leigh,
son Bobby, a brother Kenny and an aunt, Minnie.
Shirley was born January 18, 1931
to Freedom L. and Harriet A. (Shank) Jones in Glendive, MT where
she grew up and was educated. She married Leigh Royal Atwood on
January 20, 1949 in Glendive. They lived in various places
around the country before settling in Cut Bank on June 15, 1964
where Leigh worked in the oil business and Shirley worked as a
waitress and bartender at the Winner’s Circle and the Eagle’s
Club. Leigh died in 2004.
Shirley was a member of the
Eagle’s Auxiliary and Women of the Moose. She enjoyed playing
card and dice games, bingo, yahtzee
and soap operas, as well as knitting, crocheting and doll
making. She was also known as a great cook.
She will be remembered as a loving
wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister.
