Emmett Julius Aschim, 86, a long time Sunburst area farmer and WW2 Army Veteran, passed away Sunday, April 17, at the Marias Care Center. 

Funeral services are set for 2:00 pm Friday at the Sunburst Lutheran Church. Burial with VFW flag presentation will follow at the Sunburst Cemetery. Visitation is Thursday from 1:00 until 8:00 pm at the Whitted Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.whittedfuneralchapel.com. 

Emmett is survived by his wife of 58 years, Doris Aschim of Sunburst; daughter, Jill (Tom) Hauer of Great Falls; sons, Terry (Laura) Aschim of Fort Benton, Sid Aschim and Rick (Sally) Aschim both of Sunburst; sister, Randi Harte of Billings; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces & nephews. He is preceded in death by his daughter Julie (Aschim) Reis; his parents; sisters, Minnie, Esther, Clarabelle & Geneva and brothers, Orville, Lester, Newton, Marvin and Norman.  

Emmett was born April 20, 1918 at Parshall, ND to Julius & Josephine (Christofferson) Aschim. He moved to Montana in the late 30’s and served in the US Army from 1942 to 1946 where he received a Purple Heart. He married Doris Elaine Whitt on Jan. 5, 1947 and purchased the family farm in 1953. It is there they raised 5 children and farmed for 41 years until his retirement in 1994. 

Emmett was always quick with a joke and always enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and visiting with friends.  

Emmett was a member of the Sunburst Lutheran Church. 

The family suggests memorials to the Sunburst Lutheran Church Sunday School or donor’s choice.
