Edmund E. Altenburg, 97, a retired farmer from Cut Bank, died Sunday, January, 29, 2006 at Northern Rockies Medical Center in Cut Bank due natural causes.  Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, February 2nd at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Cut Bank with burial to follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m., Wednesday at the Whitted Funeral Chapel in Cut Bank.  Condolences can be sent to the family at www.whittedfuneralchapel.com.  

Survivors include his son, Eddie (Rose) Altenburg of Cut Bank; a daughter, Donna (Richard) McClane of Evansville, IN; a sister, Martha Holm of Olympia, WA; brothers, Art (Betty) Altenburg of Spokane, WA and Richard (Paula) Altenburg of Kalispell.  Also surviving are grandchildren, David (Nicole) Altenburg and Gary (Lori) Altenburg of Cut Bank, Mike (Donna Wolfgram) Altenburg of Billings, Karen (Todd) Koenig of Post Falls, ID, Connie Folz of Nashville, TN, Craig (Jill) Folz of Huntingburg, IN and Larry (Theresa) Folz of Evansville, IN as well as great-grandchildren, Jim, Aubree, Kade, Jay, Zach, Jillian, Jesse and Cody Altenburg, Logan and Kinsey Koenig and Andrew, Allison, Ashley and Payton Folz. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Florence Altenburg; wives, Esther and Margarithe and brothers, Pete and Eric Altenburg.

Edmund was born August 16, 1908 to August and Florence (Mink) Altenburg at the family farm near Somers, MT.  He left home at the age 16 and worked construction jobs till 1945 when he moved to Sunburst to farm.  He continued to work on the farm until his retirement.  He moved to Cut Bank to live in 1981. 

He married Esther Simmes on January 19, 1933.  She died in Feb., 1992.  He married Margarithe Somerfeld in June 1993.  She died in Sept., 2000.

He was a member to St. Paul Lutheran Church.  He enjoyed hunting, especially gopher hunting.  Most of all, he loved his time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending their sporting events. 

Edmund was dearly loved by his family and will be missed.
