Caskets
We offer a wide selection of caskets here at Whitted Funeral Chapel. Caskets
are broken down into two major categories, metal and wood.
Metal
Metal caskets are priced according to the kind of metal they are made of,
the thickness of the steel they are made of and their ability to seal. Precious
metals such as Bronze and Copper are the most expensive along with stainless
steel caskets. Other steel caskets are priced according to the thickness of the
material ranging from 20 gauge steel being the least expensive to 16 gauge steel
the most expensive. Most caskets have a rubber gasket and seal tight against the
outside elements. Some 20 gauge steel caskets do not have the ability to seal
and are the least expensive. The interior is a cost factor as well. Some caskets
come with a plush velvet interior while lesser expensive caskets have a crepe
interior.

Wood
Material is again the chief factor in determining the price of a wood
casket. Hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, pecan and oak are the most expensive
while softwoods such as pine and cedar are less expensive. Just like metal
caskets, interior material, either velvet or crepe, help determine price. Wood
caskets, while beautiful, will eventually deteriorate over time and thus have no
ability to seal. If that is an important issue, a good vault with the ability to
seal would be a good companion with a wood casket.

Vaults
Vaults are an outer container designed to receive the casket in the grave
and are a cemetery requirement at almost all cemeteries. They support the weight
of the earth and cemetery equipment while a casket will not, thus reducing
maintenance for cemeteries. We offer vaults in two different materials,
fiberglass and concrete. Fiberglass is less expensive but does not seal
airtight. Concrete vaults from the Wilbert Vault Co. and are a classy and
quality airtight option.
Urns
We offer a wide assortment of urns whether the ashes will be buried,
scattered or kept at home. Urn materials vary from wood, porcelain, metal or
fiberglass. We also offer keepsake urns and jewelry that hold a small amount of
ashes for those families who wish to keep some of the cremains close to them.
Some cemeteries may require an urn vault if burying an urn made of degradable
material such as wood.
