About Us |
Dan Whitted, owner and licensed funeral director and embalmer, was born and
raised on a farm just south of Omaha, Nebraska. He got his start in the funeral
business in high school, helping out at Kahler Mortuary in Papillion, Nebraska
by washing cars and running errands. He went into law enforcement after
graduating from Papillion High School in 1964, serving as a Trooper with the
Nebraska State Patrol and later as a deputy sheriff at various places around the
state. He married Pamela Jean Andersen on August 23, 1969 in her hometown of
Oakland, Nebraska. Dan decided he’d had enough of law enforcement and went back
to school to pursue his real passion, the funeral business. He graduated from
Mortuary School in Louisville, KY in 1977. They worked at and owned several
funeral homes around the country before buying Burns Funeral Home in Shelby in
February 1993.
Dan currently serves as the Toole County Coroner, Shelby Volunteer Fire Chief, a
board member on N.E.T.A., a board member on the Toole County airport board, and serves on the board of the Montana
Coroners Association. He is also a member of the Coutts-Sweet Grass Lions Club,
Masonic Lodge and Tri-County Shrine Club. Dan enjoys flying and motorcycling.
